Although I have been playing music for most of my life in one form or another, my introduction to Ren Fest only came in 2004. Until that time, I had a character in me trying to get out. Someone suggested that my Irish music would fit in well at a Renaissance Festival and I told them they were crazy. As it turns out, they were crazy and I became crazy myself not long after.
Renaissance Festivals are at first strange and wonderful. I visited as a patron and longed to be a part. I visited as a playtron but it wasn't enough. Then I was hired to perform and a whole new experience opened up.
My job turned to a way of looking at life and so many friends. Faire friends are different from regular friends. The friends you grew up with, went to school with and work with accept you for what and who you are, which is good. Faire friends accept you for what you want to be and the person who lives inside until you put on garb and walk the lanes, which is even better.
I hope my life will always be filled with both. Please join me as either.
